Thanks for informing us. I don’t know how I missed that this was even an issue. I was married over 30 years before my first husband passed. How could we have accomplished anything (especially child rearing) if we did not do it together?

I cannot imagine ever entering into a relationship as less than equal or with a person who thinks I am less than anything. Male and female created he them- you know- in God’s image.

The bible is historical and was recorded by men- some of them were broken too. The real import of the book is in its spiritual truth found more in the acts of Christ than even in his words. What the rest of them say is what we call in law- dicta- no precedential value- not law.

Mary Baker Eddy has a chapter on Marriage in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures that I have read at least 5 times. Really good even tho it was written in the 1880’s so her view on women not being engaged in politics is about society. Even so she has a great quote about how the home should be the center of the affections and not the boundary. We have to be our own people and the marriage should make both people better.

There is a supreme court case from this time period in the late 1800’s where a woman named Bradwell was denied the ability to practice law in my home state of Illinois because the court concluded women are not smart enough to engage in law and politics and should be at home with domestic chores. UG.

Glad you are moving Christians forward on this old theology that is clearly absurd.
